With three facilities in Denmark, Reproflex Scandinavia A/S (Reproflex) specializes in services covering the entire value chain from design, artwork, prepress, proofing, color management and flexo plate production. Reproflex offers individual flexo solutions across all areas within the graphic process, including prepress for flexo, offset and digital printing. Flexible packaging for film, lamination and paper represent the largest part of the company’s business, but labels, corrugated and preprint are also important parts of the product portfolio.
Serving customers throughout Scandinavia, the business has a growing number of customers in other regional markets. An 80-strong staff handles more than 30,000 demanding packaging and label jobs each year, producing more than 35,000 m2 of photopolymer plates and sleeves annually. In 2022, Reproflex became the first platemaking and prepress specialist in the region to achieve best in class certification under the XPS Crystal Program from Esko.

“Our sales partners are mainly flexo printing houses, but our customers also include advertising agencies, design producers and brand owners,” said Thomas Borge Christensen, Reproflex CEO. “When we started having print problems at one of our customers, we looked into new technologies and determined that Esko and Print Control Wizard could make a difference. And it did!”
After installing the Esko CDI 5080 Crystal plate imager and the XPS 5080 Crystal exposure unit, Reproflex added the award-winning Print Control Wizard software to optimize the quality of its plate production. “Since 2020, we have used the combination of integrated Esko software and hardware to deliver plates that surpass all our customers’ expectations,” said Thomas.

Perfect plates for optimum print results
Supplying flexo plates to more than 16 countries for a diverse range of customers, including brand owners, Thomas said it was vital that Reproflex could guarantee the same consistently high quality to realize the designs on pack.
“Integrating Print Control Wizard was an easy decision because all of our other software is from Esko, but even we were amazed at how much easier it made many of our old tasks,” he said. “This is particularly beneficial in a world with higher customer expectations of quality, as well as shorter lead times.
“With over 300 icc profiles on different substrates, everything needs to be produced and checked the same every time,” he said. “Our biggest task is to keep the printing machines running without any unnecessary stops or problems.

Efficient workflow, superior plates
The combination of the Esko CDI Crystal 5080 with the XPS Crystal 5080 enables Reproflex to streamline its flexo platemaking with a more efficient workflow, while also producing plates of a superior quality. “With the addition of Print Control Wizard, we benefit from a standardized approach to screen and curve creation,” said Thomas. “The software improves the flexo platemaking process and flexographic print quality via Crystal Screens, taking process parameters like ink, printing press, substrate and aniloxes into consideration for screen and curve creation.
“Print Control Wizard outputs a set of Crystal Screens and curves used for plate imaging on a CDI Crystal XPS, resulting in the most optimal flexo print quality,” he said. “With the complete Esko in-line set-up, we are able to supply the highest quality plates, even more efficiently.”
