Esko proves effective at David Simpson Graphics

Melbourne (Australia) September 2016, since its inception in 2000, David Simpson Graphics, a prepress supplier to the flexographic printing industry, has enjoyed a healthy growth by providing its highly skilled staff with the latest Esko solutions.

Steve Barron, general manager at DSG says, “We supply a wide variety of prepress solutions that include HD Flexo plates for wide web and label; specialized plate mounters for corrugated plate mounting; Epson digital proofing systems; and screen print film and thermal imaged film; dry offset plates; varnish plates for offset and for letterpress platemaking; and conventional flexo plates for corrugated printing.

The company supplies to businesses nationwide. It uses the Esko CDI 4260 for high definition flexo platemaking. Barron says, “We have an Esko workflow, the latest version. We are on a service contract so we keep up to date with all the latest versions of the software packages. In relation to the Spark CDI, we see that as the industry standard. It allows us to make high definition plates on any material and in-house. We are not locked into one brand of plate.

Designed to address high-quality flexo applications, the CDI Spark 4260 is positioned in the flexible packaging and folding carton markets, with inroads also in corrugated.

DSG enjoys a strong relationship with its clients and with suppliers like Esko. Barron says, “Our relationship with Esko goes back to 2000, when we started. We have had an Esko workflow from the start. We started with an Esko image setter and the Spark is our latest purchase. This has helped us dramatically. It has opened up new business for us. This helps us service the wide web and label customers especially high-end label printers.”

The company has worked hard to establish and maintain a reputation for quality and reliability in the industry. He says, “We feel we have a good position in the industry. It is important to us that we are a fully family-owned Australian owned and operated business.

“The Esko equipment is a big part of our plans for the business to grow. We look forward to offering the printers nationally with high definition printing plates and quality prepress. Based in Melbourne, we service the whole country. Our plates go all around Australia.

Despite considerable changes in the industry, over the past eight years in particular, DSG has strived to maintain the highest standards, seeing that as a meaningful way to raise a point of difference with competitors. He says, “The prepress side of the industry has consolidated over the past few years. For us, we base our ongoing success on our service quality and the Esko equipment remains a strong component in that. Of course, our greatest asset is our professional staff. Any successful business needs highly professional, highly trained, and highly knowledgeable staff members.

He concludes, “We are a part of the Flexographic Association which has combined with LATMA. This membership helps to keep us up to date with what we need to know, especially with workshops and forums.”
